We followed our dream to provide sustainable, wholesome food for our young family when we left a life of academia in Oxford and returned to Manor Farm, a mixed dairy, beef and arable farm established over 60 years ago with a closed herd of around 150 cattle near Bridlington, to help with the third generation dairy farm and to set up Manor Farm Beef.

We established Manor Farm Beef Ltd as a separate business but one that runs alongside Chris's family farm, A Shipley & Sons (Manor Farm) to ensure a consistently good price for Manor Farm's own beef, to satisfy local demand for good quality, fully traceable beef and to safeguard the farm for future generations. The fourth generation of the family (Sophie, Bethan and Maisie) are now old enough to get enjoyment from a rural upbringing.

Manor Farm Beef rears British Blue, Belted Galloway and Limousin cross cattle that are specially bred and fed to produce the best possible taste and texture. Our Manor Farm Beef beasts spend most of their lives grazing lush pastures within two miles of the farmhouse before going for slaughter at 30 months, as opposed to the industry standard of 16 months.

Inspired by a love of fine food and Charlotte's Southern Africa family links, we recently invested in equipment imported from South Africa to produce Yorkshire Beef Biltong; the first of our South African inspired diversification ideas. We produce Yorkshire Biltong from our own cuts of topside, silverside, thick flank and fillet that is seasoned with a home produced dry spice mix and dried for 24 hours in a UV cabinet that simulates the stunning South African sunshine.

Due to the success of the Biltong, we have extended our range of South African inspired beef products with the launch of Boerewors, a tasty mix of our own minced beef with whole coriander seeds, red wine, nutmeg, all spice and a secret spice mix.
